What is the purpose of the towels on the hotel bathroom door?

The rectangular towels hung on the handle of the shower room door or stacked on the edge of the bathtub are bath mats. They are used to cover the ground beside the bathtub or the floor at the entrance of the bathroom. It mainly has four functions: anti-slip, maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, environmental protection, and and privacy protection.
Anti-slip function: After taking a bath, your body is wet. The bathroom floor is usually made of tiles or marble, which is quite slippery. The towel (bath mat) hung on the bathroom door can be placed on the floor to prevent slipping.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene: After washing your feet, you don't want to touch the ground directly. A towel can ensure the cleanliness of your feet. When exiting the bathroom, stepping on the towel can prevent the water stains from the bathroom floor from being carried to other parts of the room, facilitating guests to stay dry after bathing and avoiding spreading water and causing slipping risks in other areas of the room.
Environmental Protection: When a hotel has an excessive amount of towels, it will impose a significant burden on the environment. The rational use of towels (such as multiple uses, replacement as needed, etc.) can help conserve resources and protect the environment.
Privacy Protection: If the sound during bathing is heard from outside, someone might rudely knock on the door. The towel can partially block the sound, allowing guests to bathe more comfortably. During bathing, the door handle is prone to getting wet, and others might slip when using it. The towel can prevent this from happening. It can also serve as decoration, making the entire hotel room look even more luxurious.
Fire prevention: Although not specifically for the regular use of towels hung on the bathroom door, from the perspective of hotel safety, if a fire occurs in the hotel, the towels in the bathroom (which can be grabbed from the door handle) when wet can play a role in cooling and filtering harmful gases, which can to some extent protect the respiratory tract from excessive harmful gas damage and give people more time for escape. However, this is not the daily use of towels hung on the bathroom door, but a utilization method in emergency situations.
