How to clean the hotel style duvet?
Nov 21, 2025
The hotel style duvet mainly falls into two categories: one is down duvet, and the other is synthetic microfiber duvet. Additionally, some other types of duvet may also be used by the hotel, such as silk bedding and wool bedding, but their usage rate and quantity are relatively low.
Down-filled Duvet
Down duvets are favored by high-end hotels for their excellent insulation, reliable temperature-regulating performance, strong moisture-wicking and sweat-absorbing capabilities, and their exceptional ability to fit closely to the body. They are lightweight, without any feeling of heaviness, and their performance remains consistent over time.
Washing down duvets with dry cleaning or machine washing is generally not recommended, as both methods may damage the fabric or reduce the quality of the filling. Therefore, down duvets are best washed by hand using water and gentle manual cleaning.
If only part of the duvet is soiled, you can wash just the affected area. If a full wash is necessary, follow the steps below:
First, place the down duvet in cold water for 20 minutes so that it becomes fully saturated inside and out. Dissolve a neutral, bleach-free detergent in warm water at about 30°C. Then place the duvet into the solution and let it soak for 15 minutes. After soaking, gently scrub it with a soft brush.
Rinsing should also be done with warm water, as this helps the detergent dissolve thoroughly and ensures a more complete rinse. Make sure the rinsing is thorough and that no detergent residue remains. After rinsing, lay the duvet flat, fold it in half (or into thirds), and gently roll it to press out the excess water. Use a washing machine for spin-drying only with great caution.
For drying, start with a low-temperature setting in the dryer. During the drying process, alternate between drying, spreading the duvet out, and gently patting it. Repeating this cycle-drying, spreading, and patting-helps the duvet regain its fluffy and soft texture without damaging the filling.

Microfiber-filled Duvet
Microfiber duvets are widely used in hotels of all levels because they are lightweight, offer good thermal insulation, and are reasonably priced. Generally, the filling materials used in cotton-polyester duvets can be divided into two types: two-dimensional fine fibers and three-dimensional hollow fibers.
Microfiber duvets can be washed with water or dry-cleaned. When washing with water, it is recommended to use localized water cleaning, and both machine washing and hand washing are acceptable.
If a complete wash is necessary, the following method can be used:
Start with a thorough low-temperature soak and use a mild detergent. Select a gentle washing program and use low-temperature water for rinsing. Ensure that the rinsing is thorough and that no detergent residue remains. Dry the duvet at a low temperature. After drying, shaping and setting are required. Avoid ironing or drying at high temperatures, and do not extend the drying time excessively.
